Losing a loose toothEN393 words

Losing a Tooth

In the warm sunlight of the wooden workshop, where half-finished toys and shavings covered the floor, the sound of gentle sanding filled the air, and the smell of fresh wood tickled the nose. A pale winter light that carried the sound of footsteps back when walked upon cast a quiet glow over the room. Among the workbenches and tools, a little girl named Kate sat with her fingers in her mouth, wiggling a loose tooth back and forth, her curly brown hair tied up in a ponytail with a soft blue ribbon.

This afternoon, as Kate's tooth wiggled more loosely than before, she began to feel a mix of excitement and frustration. She had been waiting for what felt like forever for it to fall out, and now it seemed to be taking its time. She tried to pull it out, but it wouldn't budge, and she let out a little sigh of impatience. Her grandfather, who was sanding a wooden bird nearby, looked up and said, "You're feeling a bit stuck, aren't you?" Kate nodded, her eyes fixed on her tooth. Her grandfather put down his sanding block and said, "Why don't you take a break and help me find a special stone to weigh down this bird's wing?" Kate climbed down from her stool and began to search through a nearby basket of pebbles.

As they searched, Kate's grandfather didn't try to fix her tooth, but being with him made her feel a little better. After a while, Kate's tooth finally fell out, and she felt a rush of excitement. She showed it to her grandfather, who smiled and said, "Well done, Kate!" The pale winter light in the workshop seemed to glow a bit softer now, and the sound of footsteps seemed quieter, as if the room itself was happy for Kate.

From that day on, Kate and her grandfather worked together in the workshop, making all sorts of wonderful things, and Kate's smile was a little bit bigger, with a small gap where her tooth used to be. On special days, like her birthday, Kate's grandfather would make her a special gift, like a wooden bird with a wing that flapped up and down, and Kate would run around the workshop, laughing and feeling happy, the sound of her footsteps echoing back to her in the pale winter light.
